A tradition from closer to home
Most spa menus look outward — Sweden, Thailand, Bali. This session looks the other way. Kerala has one of the oldest continuous wellness cultures anywhere in the world, and the Indian Heritage Massage is our homage to it: warm herbal-infused oils, long rhythmic strokes drawn from traditional Indian bodywork, and the unhurried pace that the region's healing customs have always insisted on.
We should be clear about what it is and is not. This is not a medical or clinical Ayurvedic treatment, and we do not present it as one. It is a relaxation massage inspired by those traditions — their oils, their rhythms, their respect for slowness — adapted honestly into a modern spa session at Nola Wellness Spa in Kakkanad.

What happens in a session
After the usual conversation about pressure and preferences, warmed herbal-infused oil is applied generously — this is an oil-forward style, and the warmth is half the pleasure. Your therapist works in long, repeating strokes that travel the full length of the limbs and back, building a steady rhythm rather than jumping between areas. The pressure sits in the medium range: present enough to reach the muscles, never sharp.
The session is a full three-hour (180-minute) experience, giving the rhythm time to settle in properly across the whole body. Afterwards, private showers are available if you wish to rinse the oil away — though many guests choose to let it linger. If you are drawn to island traditions instead, our Balinese massage offers a similar depth with a different accent.
Benefits of the Indian Heritage Massage
- Deep, whole-body relaxation — the repeating rhythm of long strokes settles the nervous system the way a familiar piece of music does.
- Nourished skin — warm herbal-infused oils leave the skin soft and conditioned rather than merely lubricated.
- Eased muscle fatigue — steady medium pressure works general tiredness out of the back, shoulders and legs.
- A sense of restoration — guests describe leaving feeling put back together rather than simply loosened.
- A connection to place — a session rooted in the traditions of the very region the spa stands in.
Who is it for?
Guests looking for something more holistic than a targeted muscle treatment — those recovering from a draining season rather than a specific ache, visitors wanting a session that belongs to Kerala, and Malayalis who grew up with oil massage at home and want it done well. If your need is firmer and more surgical, our deep tissue massage is the better tool; if fragrance is what carries you away, consider the aromatherapy massage. The full menu is on our therapies page.
